IMD sees dense to very dense fog in parts of northern states till Monday

MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely in the early hours of the day over a few parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand till Saturday, over west Uttar Pradesh till Sunday, and over east Uttar Pradesh till Monday, the India Meteorological Department said.
Dense fog conditions are expected in most parts of northwest and some parts of northeast and east India till Jan. 22, the weather bureau said. Visibility drops to 0–50 metres in "very dense fog" conditions and between 51 and 200 metres in "dense fog" conditions.
Cold wave conditions are very likely in a few parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Odisha on Friday and Saturday, and over Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on Friday, the weather department said. Cold day conditions are likely in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Friday, and over west Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, the weather department said.
A cold wave condition is when the minimum temperature drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less in the plains and 0 degree Celsius or lower in hilly regions, according to the weather bureau. Cold day conditions are associated with a fall in maximum temperatures, typically occurring due to persistent low clouding. A cold day occurs when the maximum temperature during the day is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
Conditions remain favourable for the cessation of northeast monsoon rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and the adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka in the next two days, the weather bureau said.
A gradual rise in minimum temperature is likely in northwest India by 3–5 degrees Celsius during the next four days. In central India, no significant change in minimum temperature is likely during the next 24 hours, after which a gradual rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent three days, the weather department said. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely in east India during the next three days, after which a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent four days.
In Maharashtra, a gradual fall in minimum temperature is likely by 2–3 degrees Celsius during the next two days and thereafter a gradual rise in the same range is expected in the subsequent three days. A gradual rise in minimum temperature is likely in Gujarat by 2–3 degrees Celsius during the next two days. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over the rest of the country, the weather department said. End
