MUMBAI – India's soymeal exports are estimated to have fallen to 173,000 tonnes in December from 277,000 tonnes a year ago, according to The Soybean Processors Association of India. India exported soymeal to 47 countries in December, with the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and Nepal being the top buyers, as per SOPA's data. Soymeal production in December is seen at 750,000 tonnes, down from 868,000 tonnes a year ago.
For the oilseeds year 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), India's soybean production is estimated at 10.5 million tonnes. In 2024-25, soybean output was 12.6 million tonnes, according to data from SOPA. India's soymeal production in Oct-Dec is estimated to have fallen to 2.37 million tonnes from 2.41 million tonnes a year ago.
Soybean arrivals in December are seen at 1.0 million tonnes, down from 1.2 million tonnes a year ago. In Oct-Dec, soymeal exports were seen lower at 507,000 tonnes from 518,000 tonnes a year ago. Soybean arrivals were seen lower at 4.3 million tonnes from 4.6 million tonnes a year ago.
In December, soybean crushing was at 950,000 tonnes, down from 1.1 million tonnes a year ago, as per SOPA estimates. In December, soybean stocks were seen at 6.65 million tonnes. Soymeal stock at the end of December was 173,000 tonnes.
Soybean is crushed to extract soyoil and the by-product, soymeal, is primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is not genetically modified and is rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competition from cheaper alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles have weighed on exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal. End
