NEW DELHI – Global coffee prices fell sharply in December amid easing supply concerns, with the International Coffee Organization's composite indicator averaging 304.68 cents per pound, down 7.8% on month. The indicator ranged between 343.92 cents and 283.21 cents during the month, the organisation said in its December report.

"The downturn was driven by an improved global supply outlook, reduced policy uncertainty, and a depreciation of the Brazilian real, which encouraged producer selling," the report said.

Prices fell across various coffee groups. The average prices of Colombian Milds coffee fell 6.5% to 382.32 cents per pound in December, and those of Other Milds fell 7.1% on month to 381.14 cents per pound. Brazilian Naturals coffee prices declined 6.5% on month to 355.38 cents per pound, and Robustas reported the sharpest decline of 11.3% on month to 190.53 cents per pound, according to the report.

Futures coffee prices on the New York Intercontinental Commodity Exchange fell 6.9% on month, and those on London ICE declined 11.6% on month in December, the report said.

Despite lower prices, global coffee exports remained strong. Global green bean exports rose 4.8% on year in November to 8.95 million bags ( 1 bag = 60 kg), driven mainly by Robustas and Other Milds. The Robustas shipments jumped 28% on year to 3.24 million bags, driven by sharp increases from Vietnam, Indonesia, and Uganda. Other Milds coffee exports rose 28.8% to 1.22 million bags, supported by Peru's higher output, the report said.

However, Brazilian Naturals coffee exports fell 14.7% on year in November to 3.25 million bags, marking the ninth consecutive month of decline, largely due to high exports from Brazil in November 2024. Colombian Milds coffee exports fell 0.9% on year to 1.24 million bags, the first contraction in over two years, the report said.

Exports of all forms of coffee rose 3.8% on year to 10.47 million bags in November. Asia and Oceania led this growth, with 47% rise in exports to 3.63 million bags, led by Vietnam and Indonesia.

Africa's coffee exports increased 7.7% to 1.41 million bags in November, while South America's exports fell 14.9% to 5.04 million bags. Mexico and Central America recorded a marginal rise in exports, 1.2% on year, to 391,000 bags.

Green beans remained the largest form of coffee exported, accounting for 86% of the total exports in the first two months of the 2025-26 coffee year started in October, while soluble and roasted coffee represented nearly 14% and 0.4%, respectively, of the total exports share, the report said.  End
