NEW DELHI –  Futures contracts of all spices were up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Monday. Prices of turmeric rose amid tight supply conditions, while those of jeera increased, supported by weather-related disruptions and delayed sowing, analysts said. Prices of coriander were up ahead of the festival season demand, they said.

At 1640 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 1.9% at INR 17,940 per 100 kilogram, supported by below-normal arrivals and sustained domestic as well as international demand, Kedia Advisory said in a note. Market sentiment remains firm, as both farmers and stockists have significantly reduced inventories, limiting near-term availability ahead of new-crop arrivals, it said. Moreover, robust export demand from Europe and the US, supported by Integrated Pest Management-compliant produce, is supporting prices, the brokerage said.

The most-active March contract of JEERA was up 3.3% at INR 23,750 per 100 kg with strong export demand and lower sowing levels supporting the overall market tone, SMC Global said. In Gujarat, sowing was at 399,000 hectares, down 14.2% year-on-year, as uneven rainfall has slowed field preparation, making this one of the slowest sowing seasons in recent years, Kedia Advisory said.

Supply tightness due to logistical constraints in India and West Asia, along with some improvement in demand from Gulf countries and China, continued to lend support, though buying remains price-sensitive, the brokerage said.

The most-active April contract of CORIANDER was up 2.4% at INR 11,064 per 100 kg on festive-season demand, which is expected to keep prices high, SMC Global said. However, upside may be capped by weak buying interest at elevated levels.
