Malaysia Dec CPO output down 5.5% on month at 1.83 mln tn, exports rise 8.5%

NEW DELHI – Malaysia's crude palm oil production in December fell 5.5% on month to 1.83 million tonnes, according to preliminary data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. Crude palm oil stocks in December rose 4.5% to 1.82 million tonnes amid higher imports and inventories.
Palm oil exports in December rose 8.5% on month to 1.32 million tonnes. Exports recovered from the sharp fall in November, when shipments had fallen 28% on month to around 1.2 million tonnes. Palm oil imports, including processed oils, rose almost 44% on month to 33,292 tonnes in December, according to the data.
Stocks of processed palm oil rose almost 13% on month to 1.23 million tonnes, while palm kernel oil stocks rose 4.7% to 329,764 tonnes. Total palm oil inventories were up 7.6% on month at 3.05 million tonnes in December. Total palm oil stocks are at a seven-year high as strong output continued to outpace exports, Reuters reported.
A Reuters survey had forecast inventories at 2.97 million tonnes, with output seen at 1.76 million tonnes and exports at 1.25 million tonnes.
Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils. At 1254 IST, the most-active March contract of crude palm oil on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives was at 4,084 ringgits (INR 90,672.93) per tonne, up over 1% from the previous close.
