MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were steady in key markets of the country on Friday, traders said. Prices are likely to increase as arrivals are falling and there is demand from millers for domestic oilseeds amid increase in cost of imported crude edible oil, they added.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan were steady at INR 7,150-7,175 per 100 kilograms after rising by INR 50 this week on strong demand from millers, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals in the country totalled 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 219,000 bags on the previous day.
In Kota, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,800 per 100 kg after increasing by INR 100 this week on concerns over crop damage, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 4,000 bags, down 500 bags from the previous day, Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,850-INR 4,950 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.
Soybean prices in Kota, Rajasthan were steady at INR 5,051 per 100 kg. Prices are likely to rise driven by strong demand from millers and declining arrivals, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 15,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,800-INR 5,900 per 100 kg. Arrivals were down 1,000 bags at 13,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), Porwal said. However, groundnut acreage is down, which could lead to lower output and subsequently support prices. Groundnut acreage fell 7% on year to 313,000 hectares as of Jan 2, data from the agriculture ministry showed.
