MUMBAI – Soybean prices rose in Rajasthan's Kota due to lower arrivals and firm demand, while they remained steady in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam, traders said. Groundnut prices rose in Gujarat's Visavadar and were steady in Ratlam, they said. Mustard seed prices were steady in key spot markets after rising at the beginning of the week.

MUSTARD seed prices at Jaipur in Rajasthan were steady at INR 7,150-7,175 per 100 kilograms after rising by INR 50 this week on strong demand from millers, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals in the country totalled 219,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 190,000 bags on the previous day.

In Kota, mustard seed prices were steady at INR 6,800 per 100 kg after increasing by INR 100 the previous day on concerns about crop damage, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags, up 500 bags from the previous day, Sameriya said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam were steady at INR 2,850-INR 4,950 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.

Soybean prices in Kota rose by INR 51 to INR 5,051 per 100 kg, driven by strong demand from millers and declining arrivals, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 16,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,800-INR 5,900 per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 2,000 bags to 14,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), Porwal said. However, groundnut acreage is down, which could lead to lower output and support prices. Groundnut acreage fell 7% on year to 313,000 hectares as of Friday.

In Visavadar market, in Gujarat, prices rose INR 50-INR 70 per 100 kg to INR 5,000 and INR 7,000 per 100 kg, depending on varieties, as arrivals are falling and the government procurement is going on, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader.
