Telangana rabi acreage dn 4% on yr at 2.38 mln acres as on Wed

MUMBAI – The area under rabi crops in Telangana stood at 2.38 million acres (1 acre = 0.4 hectares) as of Wednesday, down over 4% from 2.48 million acres a year ago, according to a report released by the state agriculture department. The state's normal rabi area is 6.87 million acres, of which nearly 35% has been covered so far.
Paddy acreage in the state was down at 1.16 million acres from 1.28 million acres a year ago, the report showed. The area under maize rose to 140,839 acres from 116,398 acres.
The area under chana slipped to 156,641 acres from 212,663 acres a year ago, according to the report. The acreage of urad fell to 25,754 acres from 39,171 acres. The total area sown under all pulses in the state was 189,388 acres, down from 262,376 acres a year ago.
The total area sown under all oilseeds so far was down at 177,385 acres from 233,930 acres a year ago, the report showed. Under oilseeds, the acreage of groundnut fell to 160,085 acres from 217,506 acres.
Tobacco acreage in the state was 9,079 acres, down from 10,163 acres covered a year ago.
The water level in reservoirs across Telangana was 785.28 billion cubic metres as of Wednesday, compared with 726.2 billion cubic metres a year ago, according to the report. End
