India receives 73% below normal rainfall in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 0.9 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 73% below the normal of 3.2 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall during the week.

 

East and northeast India received 74% below normal rains at 0.8 millimetres, northwest India received 79% below normal rains at 1.2 milliimetres. South peninsular India received 24% below normal rains at 1.8 millimetres and central India received 98% below normal rains during the week ended Wednesday.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 16 did not receive any rainfall and 10 received "large deficient" rainfall. Two subdivisions received "deficient" rainfall and another two received "normal" showers in the week ended Wednesday. Four subdivisions received "large excess" and two received "excess" rains.  End
