MUMBAI - Mustard seed prices rose in Kota Wednesday due to firm demand from millers, but were steady in Jaipur, traders said. Soybean prices also rose in Kota and were steady in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, traders said. Falling arrivals and firm demand for domestic oilseeds from millers are likely to support prices, they added.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,150-7,175 per 100 kilograms after rising by INR 50 in the past two days due to strong demand from millers, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals in the country totalled 190,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose by INR 100 to INR 6,800 per 100 kg due to concerns about crop damage and firm demand by millers in the state, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 4,500 bags, down 500 bags from the previous day, Sameriya said. Lower arrivals also supported prices.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam were steady at INR 2,850-INR 4,950 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.
Soybean prices in Kota rose by INR 30 to INR 5,000 per 100 kg due to demand from millers for domestic oilseed, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 17,000 bags, up from 12,000 bags the previous day, he said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,800-INR 5,900 per 100 kg. Arrivals were steady at 16,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), Porwal said. However, groundnut acreage is down on year which could lead to fall in output and support prices. Groundnut acreage fell 7% on year to 313,000 hectares as on Friday.
