NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday exchanged New Year greetings with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu

and discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership, according to the Prime Minister Modi's social media post on X. Both leaders also reaffirmed their shared resolve to fight terrorism, Modi said in his post.

India and Israel signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty last year to boost trade and economic ties. The two sides also finalised the terms of reference for a free trade agreement in November. A team of officials from Israel are likely to visit New Delhi this month to take forward the trade negotiations.

The investment treaty and trade deal talks between India and Israel mark a revival of bilateral efforts that began more than a decade ago. The two sides had first launched negotiations for a trade agreement in 2010, but the talks lost momentum and eventually stalled in 2013 after eight rounds of discussions. India and Israel had bilateral trade of $3.63 billion in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), which included $2.15 billion in exports.  End
