MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices rose in key markets across the country as demand from millers increased and on concerns of crop damage, traders said. Soybean prices were mixed, with rates rising in one market and steady in another. Groundnut prices were steady in key markets, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose by INR 25 to INR 7,125-7,150 per 100 kilograms due to strong demand from millers, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals in the country totalled 190,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 175,000 bags the previous day.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose by INR 180 to INR 6,680 per 100 kg due to concerns about crop damage, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were steady at 5,000 bags, Sameriya said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,800-INR 4,900 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.

Soybean prices in Kota rose INR 150 to INR 4,950 per 100 kg, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 15,000 bags, up 5,000 bags from the previous day, he said. As imports become more expensive, millers have little choice but to procure domestic oilseeds for crushing rather than rely on imported edible oils to meet domestic demand, traders said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,800-INR 5,900 per 100 kg. Arrivals were steady at 16,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), Porwal said.
