Global alumina production down 1.5% on month Nov, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell nearly 1.5% on month to 13.13 million tonnes in November, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. However, on a yearly basis, alumina output was up nearly 6% from 12.40 million tonnes.

 

Average daily global alumina production rose to 437,500 tonnes in November from the revised 429,700 tonnes in October, as per the data. Alumina production in China fell to 8 million tonnes in November from 8.16 million tonnes in October. The country's output, which accounts for 61% of global alumina production, was up 9% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell nearly 3% on month to 1.46 million tonnes in November. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose nearly 4% on month to 1.30 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production fell by 7,000 tonnes from last month to 594,000 tonnes in November and output in South America rose by 14,000 tonnes from October to 1.02 million tonnes, the data showed.

 

According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium was down over 3% on month at 6.1 million tonnes in November. At 1101 IST, the most-active January aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 1% at INR 293.45 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 0.5% at $2,968.00 per tonne.  End
