MUMBAI – Prices of maize in most spot markets across the country fell due to high arrivals and low demand, traders said. Prices of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, rose due to firm demand and prices of the grain in Vashi, Navi Mumbai also rose amid suspension of the wheat e-auction. Rice prices in key spot markets across the country were unchanged due to subdued demand, they said.

Prices of MAIZE in Indore fell by INR 35 per 100 kilograms to INR 1,800 per 100 kg due to high arrivals in the market, said Gaurav Kochar, a local trader. Arrivals usually rise after the weekend. Prices of maize in Davanagere fell by INR 100 per 100 kg to INR 1,800-1,950 per 100 kg due to low demand, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals in the market stood at 10,00 bags (1 bag = 60 kg).

WHEAT prices in Kota rose by INR 50 per 100 kg to INR 2,500 per 100 kg due to firm demand in the market, said local trader Ravi Mehta. Arrivals in the market stood at 3,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Prices of wheat in Indore remained unchanged at INR 2,760 per 100 kg due to lack of fresh cues, Kochar said.

Prices of wheat in Vashi rose by INR 25 per 100 to INR 2925 per 100 kg, said wholesale trader Devendra Vora.  The government has temporarily suspended wheat auctions under the open market sales scheme for 2025-26 from Dec. 10 due to weak sales at its previous auctions. The Food Corp. of India had commenced wheat auctions for 2025-26 on Nov. 12. Since then, only two auctions have been held after it shifted to fortnightly auctions from weekly ones due to weak sales and poor buying interest from millers and processors amid ample market supplies.

Prices of major RICE varieties were unchanged, traders said. In Vashi, prices of the 1401 and 1121 basmati varieties were unchanged at INR 7,800=INR 8,000 per 100 kg and INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, Vora said.

The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati variety, was steady at INR 5,600-INR 5,800 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada, said Ravi Shankar, a trader. Prices were unchanged due to low trade in the market owing to no demand, he said.  End
