World steel body says global output down 4.6% on year in Nov, India up 11%

NEW DELHI – Global crude steel production in November fell 4.6% on year to 140.1 million tonnes, according to World Steel Assoication's report. Steel output in top producer China fell 10.9% on year to 69.9 million tonnes, while it rose 10.8% on year in India to 13.7 million tonnes last month, the data showed.
Among other major producers, the US saw steel output rise 8.5% on year to 6.8 million tonnes in November, but Japan's output declined 1.6% on year to 6.8 million tonnes. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.2 million tonnes, down 6.6% on year, and South Korea produced 5.0 million tonnes, down 4.8% on year, the data showed.
Regionally, steel production trends were mixed. Asia and Oceania, the world's largest steel producing region, saw output decline 7.1% on year to 99.9 million tonnes in November. The European Union's steel output also declined 3.5% on year to 10.2 million tonnes. North America's output rose 5.4% on year to 9.0 million tonnes, but steel output in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as Ukraine, fell nearly 4% on year to 6.3 million tonnes, the data showed.
