India Apr-Oct spices exports up 14% at 1.07 mln tn, jeera down 13%

MUMBAI – India's spices exports rose 14% on year to 1.07 million tonnes in Apr-Oct from 939,517 tonnes a year ago, according to data released by Spices Board of India Friday. In terms of value, exports were down 1% on year at $2.57 billion.

 

According to the data, India exported 126,916 tonnes of jeera in Apr-Oct, down 13% from the year-ago period. Exports of fennel fell the most during the period, 65% to 20,850 tonnes. Exports of celery fell 37% to 3,344 tonnes. 

 

On other hand, exports of ginger surged 129% to 81,183 tonnes during the period and those of small cardamom rose 86% from the year ago period to 6,827 tonnes. Curry powder and paste saw an increase of 44% in export during the period at 63,492 tonnes. Other spices that recorded a sizeable increase included chilli, garlic, and tamarind.
