MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in the key market of Jaipur but rose in Kota on Wednesday. Soybean prices rose in Kota and were steady in other key markets, and groundnut prices remained steady across key markets, traders said. Prices of most oilseeds may rise because imports of edible oils fell as the rupee depreciated, they added.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 25 to INR 7,150-INR 7,175 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Mustard seed arrivals in the country totalled 200,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) on Wednesday, same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
However, mustard seed prices in Kota rose by INR 100 to INR 6,700 per 100 kg due to firm miller demand, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, Sameriya added.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,600-INR 4,750 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals in the market were at 10,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.
In Kota, soybean prices rose INR 80 to INR 4,701 per 100 kg due to higher demand for domestic oilseeds, according to Sameriya. Arrivals were at 20,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day, he said. With imports becoming costlier, millers have little choice but to procure domestic oilseeds for crushing, rather than relying on imported edible oils to meet the domestic demand, traders said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,700-INR 5,400 per 100 kg on Wednesday. Arrivals were steady at 22,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), Porwal said.
