Cabinet approves outlay of INR 120.15 bln for expansion of Delhi Metro

--Cabinet OKs INR 120.15 bln for expansion of Delhi metro 

 

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet approved an outlay of INR 120.15 billion for expansion of the Delhi Metro. Under the Delhi Metro Phase – V(A) project, the central government, in collaboration with the Delhi government, will facilitate increasing the metro rail line by 16 kilometres over three years.

 

Both the Centre and the Delhi government will contribute INR 17.59 billion each for the project. Additionally, Delhi Metro Rail Corp. will raise INR 52.78 billion as loan for the construction project, Information and Broadcasting Minister Aswini Vaishnaw told mediapersons Wednesday while detailing the Cabinet's decision. However, the minister did not give any details on the remaining INR 32.19 billion of the total outlay of INR 120.15 billion.

 

The expansion project includes three corridors that will connect Ramkrishna Ashram Marg with Indraprastha, Aerocity with Airport Terimal- 1, and Tughlakabad with Kalindi Kunj. This will entail addition of 10 underground and three elevated metro stations. With this project, the Delhi Metro line will cross the 400-kilometre-mark, Vaishnaw said.  End
