Global body says production of primary aluminium down over 3% on month in Nov

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium was down over 3% on month at 6.1 million tonnes in November, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a year-on-year basis, the production was up nearly 0.5%.

 

The average daily global aluminium production in November fell to 202,900 tonnes from 203,000 tonnes in October. China's aluminium production was down over 3% at 3.65 million tonnes in November from 3.77 million tonnes the previous month, and was up over 1% on year, the data showed. 

 

In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 402,000 tonnes in November from 415,000 tonnes recorded in the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in November was 134,000 tonnes, down from 138,000 tonnes recorded the previous month.

 

In the Gulf Cooperation Council, production fell by 15,000 tonnes to 508,000 tonnes in November. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, was down at 584,000 tonnes in November from 606,000 tonnes the previous month. The output of the metal in North America fell 12,000 tonnes to 322,000 tonnes in November and production in South America fell 6,000 tonnes to 127,000 tonnes. 

 

Global alumina production rose nearly 4% on month to 13.37 million tonnes in October, the institute said. It was up 6% from 12.62 million tonnes in the same month last year. At 1246 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was at $2,966.00 per tonne, up 0.9% from the previous close.  End
