RBI refrains from buying gold in Nov, reserves at 880.18 tn as of Nov 28

MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India refrained from adding to its gold reserves in November. Its stock of the precious metal was steady on month at 880.18 tonnes as of Nov. 28, according to the central bank's monthly bulletin released Monday.

 

The RBI's gold reserves were valued at $105.79 billion as of Nov. 28, accounting for more than 15% of the country's total foreign exchange reserves of $686.23 billion. "Gold prices rose in November on Fed (US Federal Reserve) rate cut expectations and continued to increase further in December," according to the bulletin.

 

The monthly average price of gold in Mumbai rose to INR 121,908 per 10 grams in October from INR 109,591 per 10 grams in September and INR 76,713 per 10 grams in October 2024, according to the bulletin, which cited data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association.

 

At 2000 IST, the February gold contract on COMEX was at $4,462.2 per ounce, up 1.7% from the previous close. The February contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 1.6% at INR 136,384 per 10 grams.  End
