IMD sees dense to very dense fog over many places in Punjab early Saturday

MUMBAI – Dense to very dense fog is likely over many places in Punjab till the early hours of Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said in its daily update Friday. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar on Sunday, the weather department said.

 

Dense fog is very likely in isolated pockets of northeast India till the early hours of Wednesday, the weather department said. Similar conditions are likely to prevail over Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and north Odisha till the early hours of Sunday; over Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and Tuesday; over Bihar on Sunday and Monday; over Uttarakhand and Punjab on Tuesday; over east Uttar Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday; over east Rajasthan till early hours from Sunday to Tuesday; and over west Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday, it said.

 

A subtropical westerly jet stream with core winds of up to 100 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level continues to prevail over North India, under which cold wave conditions are very likely over parts of Telangana and south interior Karnataka on Saturday and Sunday, and over west Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Cold wave to severe cold conditions are very likely over parts of north interior Karnataka on Saturday and Sunday, the weather department said. A cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature at a station is 10 degrees Celsius or less in the plains and 0 degrees Celsius or less in hilly regions.

 

Under the influence of a western disturbance due to a cyclonic circulation over Jammu in lower tropospheric levels, heavy rainfall or snowfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad regions on Sunday, and isolated rainfall over Punjab from Saturday to Monday, the weather department said.

 

A gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2–3 degree Celsius is very likely over northwest India for the next three days and fall by 2–4 degree Celsius during the subsequent four days. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over east India for next five days and a gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2 degrees Celsius over the subsequent two days is expected. No significant change in the minimum temperatures over Gujarat region is likely in the next two days followed by a gradual fall of 2-3 degree Celsius over the subsequent five days.  End
