MUMBAI – India's oilmeal exports in November fell nearly 26% on year to 270,843 tonnes, according to data released by The Solvent Extractors' Association of India Friday. For Apr-Nov, oilmeal exports were at 2.73 million tonnes, down from 2.75 million tonnes a year ago.

Exports of soymeal in November fell over 38% to 113,379 tonnes from 183,481 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-Nov, soymeal exports were at 1.13 million tonnes, down from 1.21 million tonnes last year. The export of soybean meal in the last two months (Oct-Nov), increased on strong demand from European buyers such as France and Germany. "Since last two years, soybean meal manufacturers have been facing weak demand from domestic live-stock feed makers, who are showing preference towards the cheaper distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), a by-products of ethanol production from grains such as corn and rice," the association said.

Exports of mustard meal fell nearly 25% to 109,195 tonnes in November from 145,089 tonnes in the previous year. Export of mustard meal during Apr-Nov rose to 1.36 million tonnes from 1.32 million tonnes last year. Exports of castorseed meal fell to 22,496 tonnes in November from 31,307 tonnes a year ago, the association said.

Exports of groundnut meal fell nearly 43% on year to 2,105 tonnes in November and were up over 86% on year at 21,405 tonnes during Apr-Nov.

Exports of rice bran meal in November rose to 23,668 tonnes from 78 tonnes a year ago. In Apr-Nov, too, rice bran meal exports rose to 38,257 tonnes from 14,321 tonnes a year ago. The government had lifted the ban on export of de-oiled rice bran with effect from Oct. 3. This led to resumption of exports, with 38,257 tonnes exported to Vietnam and Nepal during Oct-Nov, the association said. In July 2023, the government had banned the export of de-oiled rice bran citing high domestic prices of cattle feed and milk products.

In Apr-Nov, a total of 505,091 tonnes of oilmeal were exported from the Kandla port in Gujarat, down from 926,620 tonnes a year ago, the association said. However, exports from the Mundra port, also in Gujarat, were at 1.05 million tonnes, up from 647,879 tonnes a year ago, it said. In the same period, exports from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai fell to 439,531 tonnes from 448,292 tonnes a year ago, the association said.

In Apr-Nov, India's oilmeal exports to Bangladesh fell 35% to 305,916 tonnes from 470,857 tonnes in the corresponding period last year, according to the data. During the same period, exports to South Korea fell over 47% on year to 265,421 tonnes. Oilmeal exports to Vietnam fell to 133,496 tonnes from 178,549 tonnes a year ago, as per the data.

China imported 651,829 tonnes of oilmeal from India during Apr-Nov, compared to just 25,624 tonnes in the corresponding period a year ago. The country's imports comprised 644,800 tonnes of rapeseed or mustard meal and 7,029 tonnes of castorseed meal. European countries were major importers of soybean meal from India, with Germany and France importing 173,740 tonnes and 109,145 tonnes, respectively, the association said.
