NEW DELHI – The finance ministry has imposed anti-dumping duty on cold rolled non-oriented electrical steel imported from China for a period of five years to prevent dumping of the product and the consequent injury to the domestic industry, according to a government notification. Cold rolled non-oriented electrical steel is a critical material used in the manufacturing of electrical devices such as transformers, motors, and generators.

The finance ministry approved anti-dumping duty to the tune of $223.82-$414.92 per tonne of these electrical steel products imported from China, as per the notification.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies had in September recommended anti-dumping duty on the import of cold rolled non-oriented electrical steel imported from China. It had initiated an investigation in September 2024 to check the scale of injury to the domestic industry due to the cheap imports of the product.  End
