India's Apr-Nov crude import bill falls 12% YoY to $80.9 bln, Nov bill unch

MUMBAI – India's crude oil import bill for the first eight months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) declined around 12% on year to $80.9 billion, despite a rise in import volumes, according to a report by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. During Apr-Nov, the country imported 163.4 million tonnes of crude oil, up 2.5% from the corresponding period last year.

 

In November, India imported 21.1 million tonnes of crude oil, up from 18.9 million tonnes a year ago. However, the import bill in November was unchanged from a year ago at $9.9 billion, amid softer global crude oil prices. The average Brent crude oil price fell to $63.65 per barrel in November from $64.75 per barrel the previous month, and $74.47 per barrel in the year-ago period. The average price of Indian crude basket was $64.31 per barrel in November, as against $65.08 per barrel preceding month and $73.02 per barrel in November 2024, the report said.

 

The country's dependency on crude oil imports in Apr-Nov was slightly higher at 88.6% against 88.1% in the corresponding period a year ago. Domestic crude oil production in Apr-Nov fell to 18.8 million tonnes from 19.1 million tonnes last year, while consumption of petroleum products rose to 160.2 million tonnes from 158.0 million tonnes.

 

In Apr-Nov, total gross petroleum imports, including crude oil and petroleum products, rose around 2% to 197.3 million tonnes from 193.7 million tonnes a year ago. The value of gross total petroleum imports fell to $95.6 billion from $107.8 billion, the report showed. India's exports of petroleum products rose marginally to 42.3 million tonnes in Apr-Nov from 42.1 million tonnes in the year-ago period. The value of exports declined to $26.6 billion from $28.9 billion.  End
