NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander fell while those of jeera and turmeric were up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Wednesday, analysts said. Prices of jeera rose following reports of a fall in acreage and because of steady demand, they said. Turmeric rose on strong seasonal demand amidst tight supplies while coriander contracts were down on continued profit booking.
The most-active April contract of TURMERIC rose 2% to INR 16,190 per 100 kg on strong seasonal demand amidst tight supplies, SMC Global said. Prices also rose after two continuous days of profit booking, analysts said. Prices are likely to remain supported in the near term as arrivals of the new crop are expected to be delayed. Arrivals of the spice are expected to remain delayed till Feb-Mar, while carry-forward stocks are at record low levels compared with historical averages, keeping supplies tight, Kedia Advisory said in a note.
The most-active January contract of JEERA was up 0.7% at INR 21,175 per 100 kg due to a fall in acreage in the ongoing sowing season and consistent demand, SMC Global said. Weather-related delays and uneven rainfall continue to hinder sowing in the ongoing rabi season, which is likely to provide some support to prices in the near term, Kedia Advisory said.
The most-active January contract of CORIANDER was down 0.1% at INR 9,926 per 100 kg as profit-booking continued with prices hovering around the INR 10,000 per 100 kg mark, analysts said. The fall in prices is likely to be limited due to reports of a fall in acreage in the ongoing rabi season and because of steady seasonal demand, SMC Global said.
