Kota wheat dn on high arrivals; Indore maize up on firm demand

MUMBAI – High arrivals of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, weighed on prices Wednesday, while prices were steady in other key spot markets, traders said. Prices of maize in Indore, Madhya Pradesh rose due to firm demand, they said. Rice prices were steady in key spot markets across the country due to lack of fresh cues.
WHEAT prices fell by INR 30 per 100 kilograms in Kota due to low demand in the market and high arrivals, Ravi Mehta, a local trader, said. Arrivals in the market rose by 1,000 bags to 4,000-4,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he said. Prices of wheat in Indore were steady at INR 2,715 per 100 kg, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said. Prices are likely to fluctuate by INR 20-INR 25 per 100 kg in the short term, depending on demand, he added.
Prices of the grain in the wholesale market of Vashi, Navi Mumbai, remained steady at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, said Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader.
MAIZE prices in Indore rose INR 25 per 100 kg to INR 1,825 per 100 kg due to firm demand, Kochar said. Prices of maize are likely to rise further by INR 100 per 100 kg if arrivals of the kharif crop fall, he said.
Prices of major RICE varieties remained unchanged, traders said. In Vashi, prices of the 1401 and 1121 basmati varieties were steady at INR 7,200-INR 7,400 per 100 kg and INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, Vora said. The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati variety, was steady at INR 5,600-INR 5,800 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. Prices are likely to remain steady in the near term, he added.
Meanwhile, a delegation of parliamentarians and legislators from Odisha led by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday called on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi and sought an increase in offtake of parboiled rice by Food Corp. of India from the state to support farmers, according to media reports. The delegation requested that the quantity of parboiled rice lifted from Odisha to the central pool be enhanced to 2.5 million tonnes from the existing 2 million tonnes. A formal memorandum to this effect was submitted to the Minister Joshi, as per the reports. End
