MUMBAI – India's vegetable oil imports, including both edible and non-edible oils, fell 28% on year to 1.18 million tonnes in November from 1.65 million tonnes a year ago, according to data released by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India Monday. Total edible oil imports in November also fell to 1.15 million tonnes from 1.61 million tonnes a year ago.

 

Crude soyoil imports fell to 370,661 tonnes in November from 407,648 tonnes a year ago and crude sunflower oil imports fell to 142,953 tonnes from 340,660 tonnes a year ago, the association said. Imports of crude palm oil rose to 626,991 tonnes from 547,309 tonnes last year. Imports of crude soyoil also fell to 370,661 tonnes in November from 407,648 tonnes a year ago. 

 

Imports of refined, bleached, and deodorised palmolein oil during November fell sharply to 3,500 tonnes from 265,416 tonnes last year. "The ratio of refined oil sharply decreased to 0.30% from 19%, while crude palm oil ratio increased to 99.7% from 81%," the association said.

 

As of Dec. 1, domestic edible oil stocks at ports stood at 1 million tonnes, up from 998,000 tonnes a year earlier, while pipeline stocks fell to 600,000 tonnes from 1.57 million tonnes, the association said.

 

As of Dec. 5, the total area sown under oilseeds in the ongoing rabi season was 8.4 million hectares, up 3% from 8.2 million hectares a year ago, data from the agriculture ministry showed. Groundnut acreage fell about 22% to 180,000 hectares from 230,000 hectares, while acreage under mustard, the largest winter oilseed, rose about 4.5% to 8.0 million hectares from 7.6 million hectares a year ago. Sunflower acreage increased 23% to 32,000 hectares from 26,000 hectares, according to the report.
