NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated grew at the quickest pace over two years in November after the pace of rise had slowed down sharply in October. E-way bills generated rose 27.6% on year to 129.90 million in November, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network.

Sequentially, the number of e-way bills generated rose 2.4% from a four-month low of 126.86 million in October. E-way bills generated had risen just 8.2% on year in October, the slowest growth rate since October 2022.

The two volatile months of data follow the changes to the goods and services tax rates, which came into effect from Sept. 22. The slowdown in October's e-way bills growth was followed by a decline in GST collections in November as most e-way bill transactions are reflected in next month's collections.

India's GST collections fell 4% on year to INR 1.750 trillion in November, the first on-year fall since August 2020. Excluding cess collections, GST revenue rose 0.7% on year to INR 1.703 trillion in November.

An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.  End
