Global green bean exports in October rose nearly 2% on year to 9.76 million bags (1 bag = 60 kg). "This marks the second consecutive year in which the coffee season started with record shipments, setting the highest October export volume on record, albeit with only a shallow rate of expansion," according to the report.
With the exception of Brazilian Naturals, all groups of coffee began the new coffee year positively, led by the Other Milds and Robustas, which posted the strongest absolute year-on-year gains.
Shipments of Other Milds increased 21.0% in October to 1.58 million bags from 1.31 million bags in the same period in 2024. This is the second-best start to a coffee year on record, just behind the 1.6 million bags shipped in October 2018. More importantly, exports of Other Milds are maintaining the upward trend that broadly began from the middle of 2024.
The latest positive growth marks the 12th increase in the past 17 months since June 2024. Mexico, Peru and Uganda were the main drivers of the group's double-digit growth in October.
Green bean exports of Robustas were up 6.8% at 3.04 million bags in October from 2.85 million bags in correspnding period a year ago, the report said. Uganda and Vietnam were the two main drivers of the latest Robustas exports, which increased 69.8% to 1.59 million bags in October from 940,000 bags in the same period a year ago.
Green bean exports of Brazilian Naturals fell 8.2% in October to 4.01 million bags from 4.36 million bags in the same time a year ago. This is the eighth consecutive month of a decline. Brazil was the main driver of the latest downturn, with its exports dropping 11.2% to 3.35 million bags in October from 3.77 million bags in the year-ago period.
Global exports of all forms of coffee rose 0.6% on year to 11.2 million bags (1 bag = 60 kg). "Three of the four regions started the new coffee year with expansions of their exports, with South America being the sole region with a negative start," the report said. South America's downturn was substantial enough to outweigh almost all the upturns in the other three regions, it said.
Exports of all forms of coffee from Asia and Oceania were up 23.9% on year to 3.03 million bags in October. The latest double-digit growth was mainly driven by Vietnam, whose exports increased 52.7% to 1.29 million bags on year, it said.
Africa's exports of all forms of coffee increased nearly 22% on year to 1.73 million bags. On the other hand, exports of coffee from South America fell 13% on year in October to 5.89 million bags. Mexico and Central America's coffee exports increased 11.5% to 510,000 bags.
Green beans remained by far the largest form of coffee exported, accounting for 87.5% of total exports in October, while soluble and roasted coffee represented 12.2% and 0.4%, respectively, the report said. End
