MUMBAI – Prices of rice and maize remained unchanged in key spot markets across the country, while prices of wheat showed mixed trends, traders said. Wheat prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, fell due to weak demand, while they remained steady in other markets, they said.
Prices of WHEAT in Indore fell by INR 15 from Monday to INR 2,715 per 100 kg, said Gaurav Kochar, a local trader. Sluggish demand weighed on prices, he said. However, prices of wheat remained unchanged in other key spot markets. Prices of the grain in the wholesale market of Vashi, Navi Mumbai, were steady at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, said Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader.
Prices of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, were largely steady at INR 2,550-INR 2,575 per 100 kg, said Ravi Mehta, a local trader. Arrivals fell to 2,000-2,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from the previous day as farmers preferred to bring the newly harvested stock of basmati rice over their older wheat stock, he said. "Arrivals were down as basmati rice arrivals are coming in the market," he said.
Meanwhile, the government has suspended e-auctions of wheat under the open market sale scheme for 2025-26 from Wednesday, officials from the Food Corp. of India told Informist Monday. In its previous wheat auctions, FCI had barely sold 40% of its offering. The Food Corp. of India had started wheat auctions for 2025–26 on Nov. 12, and since then, only two auctions have been held after it shifted to fortnightly auctions from weekly ones due to weak sales and poor buying interest from millers and processors amid ample market supply.
MAIZE prices in Indore were steady at INR 1,850 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Similarly, prices of the coarse grain in Davanagere, Karnataka, were largely flat at INR 2,000-INR 2,050 per 100 kg, said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals were also unchanged at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), he said.
Prices of major varieties of RICE were unchanged, traders said. In Vashi, prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained stable at INR 7,100-INR 7,300 per 100 kg and INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, Vora said.
The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati variety, remained unchanged at INR 5,600-INR 5,800 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. End
