Tea Board says India's exports up 17% on yr at INR 48.85 bln during Apr-Oct

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 48.85 billion in Apr-Oct, over 17% higher than INR 41.70 billion exported a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, exports rose over 8% to 159.28 million kilograms during the period. During Jan-Oct, India exported tea worth INR 68.82 billion, up over 18% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

Exports from northern India rose 26% on year to INR 35.90 billion in Apr-Oct, the data showed. Exports from southern India fell nearly 2% to INR 12.95 billion. In terms of volume, exports from northern India rose nearly 22% on year to 107.9 million kg, but those from southern India declined over 12% on year to 51.42 million kg. 

 

In Apr-Oct, the average price of tea exported from north India was INR 332.87 per kg, up from INR 321.93 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 251.94 per kg from INR 225.39 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported from the country rose to INR 306.75 per kg in Apr-Oct from INR 283.47 per kg a year ago, according to the data.

 

In Jan-Oct, exports from north India rose nearly 27% to INR 49.59 billion and in terms of quantity, exports were up 19.6% at 153.22 million kg. However, during the same period, net tea exports from south India were nearly unchanged at INR 19.23 billion and volume was down nearly 13% at 75.30 million kg. The all India average price of tea during Jan-Oct was INR 301.20 per kg, higher than INR 271.67 per kg a year ago.  End
