MUMBAI – Mustard seed prices fell in Jaipur on poor demand but rose in Kota amid lower arrivals. Prices are likely to strengthen further as the kharif mustard crop got damaged due to heavy rainfall, raising concerns over supply, traders said. Soybean prices in Kota rose slightly on reduced arrivals but remained steady in another market while groundnut prices were largely stable across key markets, according to traders.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 100 to INR 7,200-INR 7,225 per 100 kilograms. Prices fell on lower procurement by millers as they had stocks in pipeline. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 50,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose by INR 50 to INR 6,750 per 100 kg due to lower arrivals, Mahesh Sameriya, a trader, said. However, prices may rise as the state's kharif mustard crop was damaged by heavy rains at the end of October, he said. Arrivals were at 4,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, held steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,700 per 100 kg, said local trader Narendra Porwal. Arrivals were at 11,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he added.

In Kota, soybean prices rose to INR 20 to INR 4,521 per 100 kg, said Sameriya. Arrivals were at 20,000 bags, down 4,000 bags from the previous day. Soybean prices rose slightly on lower arrivals but are likely to be range-bound in the coming days until there is good demand for soymeal and as long as there is comfortable soybean supply, traders said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam remained steady at INR 2,500-INR 5,200 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were steady at 18,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), he said. Prices will start increasing in the coming days as arrivals have started to fall, traders said. Groundnut arrivals typically peak in October and November before beginning to decline.
