MUMBAI – Prices of non-basmati sona-masoori rice rose on the back of firm demand in Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, traders said. Prices of sona-masoori are expected to rise further, they added. Prices of maize rose in Karnataka due to demand from ethanol plantations, while prices of wheat remained unchanged in key spot markets across the country, they said.

The price of sona masoori RICE, a premium non-basmati variety, rose by INR 200 per 100 kilograms to INR 5,600-INR 5,800 per 100 kg, due to firm demand in the Andhra Pradesh market, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. "Prices keep fluctuating by INR 200 per 100 kg as and when the demand rises," he said. "Prices can also reach to INR 6,000 per 100 kg if the demand rises further."

In Vashi, prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained stable at INR 7,100-INR 7,300 per 100 kg and at INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, according to Vora.

Prices of MAIZE in Davanagere, Karnataka rose INR 200 from Friday and were in the range of INR 2,000-INR 2,010 per 100 kg. Prices rose on the back of firm demand from ethanol plantations. Arrivals in Karnataka rose by 1,000 bags to 2,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), said Shiva Kumar, a local trader. Arrivals usually rise after the weekend.

The Karnataka government has permitted poultry feed manufacturers to procure maize directly from farmers at the minimum support price for the kharif marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept), a spokesperson for the Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association told Informist.

Prices of average quality WHEAT in Kota, Rajasthan were steady at INR 2,550 per 100 kg, Ravi Mehta, another local trader, said. Arrivals in Kota rose to 5,000-6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 2,000 bags Friday. Arrivals usually rise after the weekend. Prices of the grain at Vashi in Navi Mumbai also remained steady at INR 2,800–INR 2,825 per 100 kg, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader, said.  End
