India Apr-Sept spices exports up 19% YoY at 934,795 tn, jeera down 14%

NEW DELHI – India's spices exports rose 19% on year to 934,795 tonnes in Apr-Sept from 786,526 tonnes a year ago, according to data released by Spices Board of India Friday. In terms of value, exports were up 5% on year at $1.9 billion.
According to the data, India exported 109,942 tonnes of jeera in Apr-Sept, down 14% from the year-ago period. Exports of fennel fell the most during the period, 65% to 18,351 tonnes. Exports of celery fell 34% to 2,975 tonnes.
On other hand, exports of ginger surged 258% to 71,877 tonnes during the period and those of small cardamom almost doubled to 5,455 tonnes. Curry powder and paste saw an increase of 54% in export during the period at 57,553 tonnes. Other spices that recorded a sizeable increase included chilli, garlic, and tamarind.
