MUMBAI – Oilseed prices were steady across key markets of the country due to sluggish demand from mills, said traders. However, groundnut prices are likely to increase as arrivals have started to fall, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, held steady at INR 7,300-INR 7,325 per 100 kilograms. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 225,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were at INR 6,700 per 100 kg, unchanged from the previous day, Mahesh Sameriya, a trader, said. However, prices could rise as part of the kharif mustard crop in the state was damaged due to heavy rains at the end of October, he said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 500 bags from the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh remained steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,700 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 11,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he added.

In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 4,501 per 100 kg, said Sameriya. Arrivals were at 24,000 bags, same as the previous day. Soybean prices are likely to be range-bound until there is good demand for soymeal and as long as there is comfortable soybean supply, traders said.

Soybean prices had recovered a few weeks back by INR 150-INR 200 per 100 kg as there was some demand from oil plants in anticipation of rise in prices. However, the price levels could not be sustained, he said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,500-INR 5,200 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 18,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 2,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Prices will start increasing in the coming days as arrivals have started to fall, traders said. Groundnut arrivals typically peak in October and November before beginning to decline.
