MUMBAI – Firm demand from Bangladesh supported maize prices in Indore in Madhya Pradesh Friday, traders said. Wheat prices in Kota, Rajasthan, also rose on strong demand while remaining steady in other key markets. Rice prices were steady in major spot markets on lack of fresh cues. Meanwhile, farmers in Karnataka have called off their protest, traders added.

Prices of MAIZE in Indore rose by INR 50 per 100 kilograms on the back of demand from Bangladesh, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said. Prices of maize at Davanagere in Karnataka were at INR 1,800-INR 2,050 per 100 kg. Arrivals in Karnataka were at 1,000 bags (1 bag = 60 kg), said Shiva Kumar, a local trader.

Karnataka farmers have called off their four-day agitation after demand for a minimum support price level for maize procurement was met. Ethanol plants have decided to purchase maize at the minimum support price of INR 2,400 per 100 kg, Kumar said.

Additionally, the Karnataka government has permitted poultry feed manufacturers to procure maize directly from farmers at the minimum support price for the kharif marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept). A formal communication in this regard is expected later in the day, a spokesperson for the Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association told Informist.

They have agreed to begin with 500,000 tonnes in the initial round of purchases with 20?vance payment, the spokesperson said. Poultry feed manufacturers have expressed readiness to source maize directly from farmers as long as it meets poultry-feed quality and requires minimal advance payment. The manufacturers said they will procure maize if the moisture content is less than 12%.

Prices of WHEAT in Indore remained largely steady at INR 2,740 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices of average quality wheat in Kota rose by INR 50 per 100 kg to INR 2,550 per 100 kg, Ravi Mehta, another local trader, said. Arrivals in Kota held steady at 2,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg). Prices of the grain at Vashi in Navi Mumbai also remained steady at INR 2,800–INR 2,825 per 100 kg, wholesale trader Devendra Vora said.

Prices of major varieties of RICE were unchanged, traders said. In Vashi, prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained stable at INR 7,100-INR 7,300 per 100 kg and INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, according to Vora.

The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati variety, remained unchanged at INR 5,500-INR 5,600 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, said local trader Ravi Shankar.  End
