MUMBAI – The government of Karnataka has permitted poultry feed manufacturers to procure maize directly from farmers at the minimum support price for the kharif marketing season 2025-26 (Oct-Sept). A formal communication in this regard is expected later in the day, a spokesperson for the Karnataka Poultry Farmers & Breeders Association told Informist.

The government has taken the decision to reduce procurement delays and provide better support to farmers, the spokesperson said. Until now, poultry feed manufacturers had to procure maize through agents and other middlemen. The minimum support price for maize for the current kharif marketing season has been set at INR 2,400 per 100 kilograms.

On their part, poultry feed manufacturers have expressed readiness to source maize directly from farmers as long as it meets poultry-feed quality and requires minimal advance payment. The manufacturers said they will procure maize if the moisture content is less than 12%. They have agreed to begin with 500,000 tonnes in the initial round of purchases with 20?vance payment, the spokesperson said.  End
