NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of jeera and coriander fell on Thursday while those of turmeric rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange. Turmeric prices rose on reports of crop damage in key growing regions, analysts said. Jeera prices, they said, are correcting after they recently rose to multi-month highs. Coriander prices were down facing resistance at higher levels.

At 1620 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was up 1.4% at INR 14,802 per 100 kilograms as excessive rainfall has affected yields negatively in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, according to Kedia Advisory. Nearly 15% of the crop in Nanded, a district in Maharashtra, has been damaged. Continuous rains in Erode, Tamil Nadu, have also triggered an outbreak of crop disease with high humidity making storage difficult, the brokerage said. However, the upside is likely to be limited in the near term as new crop arrivals are bound to start by end of December or early in January, SMC Global said.

The most-active January contract of JEERA fell 0.1% to INR 21,820 per 100 kg. Prices are correcting after surging to a six-month high of INR 22,470 per 100 kg Monday. Prices had been rising because of adverse weather conditions, which resulted in delayed sowing across major jeera-growing regions. Sowing of jeera is seen at around 1.00 million hectares in the crop year 2025-26 (Jul-Jun), down from 1.17 million hectares last year, according to analysts.

The most-active January contract of CORIANDER fell 0.3% to INR 10,410 per 100 kg as prices faced resistance at higher levels, SMC Global said. However, the prices are likely to get support after some correction on reports of lower acreage and on steady demand during the current wedding season. Prices may also rise on demand for Ramadan from West Asian countries, according to SMC Global.
