India Nov edible oil imports fall to 7-mo low of 1.17 mln tn

MUMBAI – India's edible oil imports in November are estimated at 1.17 million tonnes, a seven month low and down 12% on month, as imports of soyoil and sunflower oil declined. Total imports of edible oil in November are estimated to have dropped 28% on year, according to estimates by GGN Research accessed by Informist.

 

In October, the country had imported 1.3 million tonnes of edible oil, with total vegetable oil imports at 1.33 million tonnes, according to data from The Solvent Extractors' Association of India. In the oil year 2024-25 (Nov-Oct), total vegetable oil imports were at 16.4 million tonnes, up from 16.2 million tonnes a year ago, the association said.

 

India's palm oil imports are estimated to have risen to 634,000 tonnes in November, up 6% from the previous month, but down 25% from last year, according to GGN Research.

 

On other hand, imports of soyoil and sunflower oil fell. "Soyoil imports fell significantly by 11% on month to 371,000 tonnes in November, and fell 9% on a yearly basis," said Rajesh Patel, managing partner at GGN research. Sunflower oil imports in November are estimated at a two-year low of 143,000 tonnes, down by a significant 45% on month and 58% on year, according to the data.

 

As of Dec. 1, vessels carrying a total of 315,000 tonnes of edible oil are in line to arrive or discharge at Indian ports in the next few days. Of the total, 50,000 tonnes are palm oil, 215,000 tonnes soyoil, and 50,000 tonnes sunflower oil, according to GGN Research.

 

In November, Nepal's edible oils imports through Indian ports are estimated at 41,000 tonnes, comprising 38,000 tonnes of soyoil, and 3,000 tonnes of palm oil, GGN Research said. Out ot the total imports of 41,000 tonnes, Nepal is estimated to have exported 15,000 tonnes of edible oil to India. In October, Nepal had imported 36,000 tonnes of soyoil, 4,000 tonnes of palm oil and 3,000 tonnes of sunflower oil, through Indian ports, it added.  End
