Heavy rains damaged 11.7 mln hectares of crops nationwide in 2025, says govt

NEW DELHI – Monsoon-related floods damaged a total of 11.7 million hectares of land as of Nov. 27 in the ongoing crop season (Jul-Jun), a government release Tuesday said.
Major states impacted included Maharashtra with 7.5 million hectares affected land, followed by Karnataka at 1.5 million hectares, Haryana at 432,000 hectares, Punjab at 193,000 hectares, Andhra Pradesh at 150,600 hectares, Uttar Pradesh at 222,000 hectares, and Jammu and Kashmir at 78,000 hectares.
According to the release, relief was provided as per the per the country's disaster-management framework. Under the National Policy on Disaster Management, state governments are leading on-ground relief using the State Disaster Response Fund, with central support when disasters are severe, the release said.
In addition, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana a large number of affected farmers have submitted claims, the release said. As of Oct 31, crops of 7.467 million farmers were insured under the scheme, of which 1.278 million claims had been approved and 1.199 million claims had already been settled. End
