NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric and coriander fell while those of jeera rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Tuesday. Prices of both turmeric and coriander fell due to profit booking after their most-active contracts hit monthly and yearly highs, according to analysts. Jeera prices recovered following mild corrections Monday, they said.

At 1552 IST, the most-active April contract of TURMERIC was down 1.2% at INR 14,656 per 100 kilogram after hitting a two-month high of INR 15,092 per 100 kg Monday, as prices rose on concern over crop damage due to unfavourable weather in key producing regions.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been lashing Tamil Nadu since last week due to the formation of two cyclonic storms back to back--cyclone Senyar and cyclone Ditwah. Continuous heavy rainfall in the state has resulted in disease outbreaks in the standing turmeric crop and raised worries of a fall in yield, Kedia Advisory said in a note. Tight supplies and steady seasonal demand are likely to keep prices supported, SMC Global said in a note. Elevated price levels may persist until fresh crop arrivals begin easing supply pressures, the brokerage said.

The most-active January contract of JEERA rose 0.2% at INR 22,100 per 100 kg as prices recovered after mild corrections, according to SMC. Prices have been rising due to adverse weather conditions, which have resulted in delayed sowing across major growing regions. "Uneven rainfall has slowed field preparations in Gujarat, leading to one of the slowest sowing seasons in recent years," Kedia Advisory said. Sowing of jeera is seen around 1 million hectares in 2025-26, down from 1.17 million hectares last year, according to analysts.

The most-active December contract of CORIANDER was down 0.4% to INR 10,530 per 100 kg after the contract hit a one-year high of INR 10,772 per 100 kg Monday. "Dhaniya market is expected to get support at prevailing prices after some corrections," SMC said. Coriander prices have been rising on reports of lower acreage and steady demand during the ongoing wedding season. Prices are seen supported by demand for Ramadan from West Asian countries, according to SMC.
