MUMBAI – Prices of the non-basmati premium rice sona-masoori in Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, rose owing to firm demand while prices of maize in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, rose on demand from Bangladesh, traders said. Maize prices in Karnataka were not available with farmers staging a protest demanding procurement at the minimum support price. Prices of wheat in Indore also rose on firm demand.
Prices of sona-masoori RICE rose INR 300 to INR 5,500-INR 5,600 per 100 kg on firm demand, Vijayawada trader Ravi Shankar said. He expects price to remain stable from here on. At the Vashi market in Navi Mumbai, prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained unchanged at INR 7,100-INR 7,300 per 100 kg and INR 8,400-INR 8,800 per 100 kg, respectively, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader, said.
The price of WHEAT in Indore rose INR 35 to INR 2,745 per 100 kg on firm demand, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said. Prices of wheat at Vashi remained steady at INR 2,800–INR 2,825 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of wheat in Kota were largely steady at INR 2,450–INR 2,460 per 100 kg, according to Aniket Mehta, a local trader.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore rose by INR 30 to INR 1,700 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices are now taking support from previous levels, he said, and are expected to rise further in the near term as the market anticipates an increase in India's maize exports. Kochar said India's maize prices are in line with those in Bangladesh, and exports from India would rise. India exported 7,410 tonnes of maize to Bangladesh in Apr-Sept, up 14% on year, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. End
