MUMBAI – Soybean prices rose in Kota, Rajasthan, on firm demand from millers, but were steady in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, traders said. Mustard and groundnut prices were steady in key spot markets. Traders said groundnut prices might recover in the coming days as arrivals are likely to fall.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were steady at 225,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), according to GGN Research.
In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were at INR 6,700 per 100 kg, unchanged from the previous day, Mahesh Sameriya, a trader, said. Part of the kharif mustard crop in the state was damaged by heavy rains at the end of October, which could support prices, he said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,500-INR 4,700 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 11,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the same as the previous day, he added. "Soybean prices had recovered a week back by INR 150-INR 200 per 100 kg as there was some demand from oil plants in anticipation of prices rising. But prices could not be sustained at those levels," he said.
In Kota, soybean prices rose by INR 50 to INR 4,651 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 30,000 bags, the same as the previous day, Sameriya said. Prices rose amid firm demand from millers in the state, he said. However, reduced demand for soymeal, a byproduct of the extraction of oil from soybean, could weigh on prices, traders said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,500-INR 5,200 per 100 kg as demand was weak, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 20,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), the same as the previous day, he said. However, prices are likely to increase in the coming days as arrivals begin to fall in December, he said. October and November are the peak months for groundnut arrivals, after which it starts to decline.
