FCI procures 29 million tonnes of paddy as of Friday, says govt

MUMBAI – Food Corp. of India has procured 29 million tonnes of paddy in the current kharif marketing season 2025-26 as on Friday, according to data from Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Out of 28 states in India, 23 have started procurement of paddy. As of Friday, West Bengal has procured 431,145 tonnes paddy, Uttar Pradesh 771,292 tonnes, Punjab 15.42 million tonnes, Telangana 2.31 million tonnes, and Tamil Nadu has procured 1.45 million tonnes, according to the data.
In India, rice is grown and harvested mainly during the monsoon season. While sowing typically occurs in June and July, harvesting is done in September and October. FCI's procurement operations generally take place between Sept. 1 and Jun. 30.
As of Friday, Food Corp. of India has paid the minimum support price of INR 656.81 billion to 23,04,629 farmers and has set up 40,253 procurement centres across the country, the data showed. End
