Global alumina production in Oct up 4% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose nearly 4% on month to 13.37 million tonnes in October, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina output was up 6% from 12.62 million tonnes. 

 

Average daily global alumina production rose to 431,400 tonnes in October from the revised 429,500 tonnes in September, as per the data. Alumina production in China rose to 8.21 million tonnes in October from 7.95 million tonnes in September. The country's output, which accounts for nearly 62% of global alumina production, was up around 11% from a year ago, the data showed. 

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output rose over 5% on month to 1.50 million tonnes in October. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose nearly 4% on month to 1.26 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production rose by 15,000 from last month to 601,000 tonnes in October and the output in South America rose by 53,000 tonnes from September to 1.01 million tonnes, the data showed.  

 

According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium was up nearly 4% on month at 6.3 million tonnes in October. At 1150 IST, the most-active November aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was steady at INR 269.25 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 0.4% at $2,841.0 per tonne.  End
