MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seeds rose in one market and were steady in another, and those of soybean fell in one market and were steady in another, said traders. Groundnut prices fell in Ratlam but are likely to increase as arrivals in the coming days will be of good quality, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 225,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 25,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices rose INR 100 to INR 6,700 per 100 kg due to increased concern about supply, trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Part of the kharif mustard crop in the state was damaged by heavy rains at the end of October, he said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, he said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh fell INR 100 to INR 2,500-INR 4,700 per 100 kg for different varieties, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 11,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, he added. "Soybean prices had recovered a week back by INR 150-INR 200 per 100 kg as there was some demand from oil plants in anticipation of prices rising. But prices could not sustain at those levels," he said.

In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 4,601 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 30,000 bags, down from 32,000 bags the previous day, Sameriya said. Soybean were steady due to reduced demand for soymeal, a byproduct of the extraction of oil from soybean, traders said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam fell INR 100 at INR 2,500-INR 5,200 per 100 kg as demand was weak, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 20,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down from 23,000 bags the previous day, he said. Prices are likely to recover as good quality groundnut with lower moisture content will arrive in the coming days, Porwal said. Moreover the quantity of arrivals will also start falling, which will support prices, he said.
