MUMBAI – Oilseed prices showed a mixed trend across key spot markets of the country Tuesday. Mustard seed prices fell in one of the key spot markets, while it rose in another, said traders. Soybean prices fell in one market and were steady in another amid subdued demand for soymeal, while groundnut prices were steady, they said.

MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose by INR 25 to INR 7,225-INR 7,250 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.

In Kota in Rajasthan, mustard prices fell INR 100 to INR 6,600 per 100 kg, due to poor demand, a trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. However, increased concerns about supply could support prices, he said. Part of the kharif mustard crop in the state was damaged by the heavy rains at the end of October, he said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 2,500 and INR 4,800 per 100 kg for different varieties, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were at 11,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, he added.

In Kota, soybean prices fell by INR 80 to INR 4,521 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 32,000 bags, down from 40,000 bags the previous day, Sameriya said. Soybean prices fell due to reduced demand for soymeal, a byproduct of the extraction of oil from soybean, traders said.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were steady at INR 2,600-INR 5,300 per 100 kg, as demand was weak, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 23,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), same as the previous day, he said. The groundnut are of higher moisture content due to heavy rainfall during October, Porwal said. Groundnut prices in Visavadar, Gujarat, were steady at INR 4,000-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 140,000 kg, he said.
