MUMBAI – Mustard prices fell in the key spot markets of the country Monday due to sluggish demand at higher rates, said traders. On the other hand, soybean prices rose in one market, while they were as steady in another. Groundnut prices fell in key markets due to poor quality seeds, they said.
MUSTARD seed prices in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell by INR 100 to INR 7,200-INR 7,225 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. During the past few days, prices had risen INR 300 per 100 kg as the arrivals were of better quality, with less moisture content. However, demand fell at higher prices, traders said. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
In Kota in Rajasthan, mustard prices fell INR 100 to INR 6,700 per 100 kg, due to higher arrivals a trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. However, increased concerns about supply could support prices, he said. Part of the kharif mustard crop in the state was damaged by the heavy rains at the end of October, he said.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh rose INR 300 per 100 kg for one variety and by INR 50 for another variety to INR 2,500 and INR 4,800 per 100 kg, respectively, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals rose to 11,000 bags from 7,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day, he added.
In Kota, soybean prices were steady at INR 4,601 per 100 kg. Arrivals were same as the previous day at 40,000 bags, Sameriya said. Soybean prices were steady due to reduced demand for soymeal, a byproduct of the extraction of oil from soybean, traders said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Ratlam were down by INR 400 to INR 2,600-INR 5,300 per 100 kg, as demand was weak, Porwal said. Arrivals were at 23,000 bags (1 bag = 40 kg), down 3,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Prices fell as arrivals are of poor quality. The groundnut are of higher moisture content due to heavy rainfall during October, Porwal said.
