Global body says production of primary aluminium up 4% on month in October

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium was up nearly 4% on month at 6.3 million tonnes in October, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. Year-on-year, the production was up marginally.
The average daily global aluminium production in October rose to 203,000 tonnes from 202,600 tonnes in September. China's aluminium production was up over 3% at 3.77 million tonnes in October, from 3.64 million tonnes recorded the previous month, and it was up 0.9% on year, the data showed.
In Asia, excluding China, production rose to 415,000 tonnes in October from 400,000 tonnes recorded in the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in October was 138,000 tonnes, up from 133,000 tonnes recorded the previous month.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, production rose by 19,000 tonnes to 525,000 tonnes in October. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, was up to 606,000 tonnes in October from 584,000 tonnes the previous month. The output of the metal in North America rose by 14,000 tonnes to 334,000 tonnes in October and production in South America rose by 5,000 tonnes to 133,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production fell over 3% on month to 12.88 million tonnes in September from 13.32 million tonnes in August. On a yearly basis, alumina output was up over 7%. At 1302 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was at $2,806.5 per tonne, up 0.7% from the previous close. End
