NEW DELHI - Prices of rice and maize were steady in all key markets amid a lack of fresh cues Friday, traders said. Wheat prices remained unchanged in most markets, but fell in Kota, Rajasthan. High arrivals and weak demand weighed on wheat prices, they added.
Prices of major varieties of RICE were steady in most markets. In Vashi, Navi Mumbai, prices of basmati 1401 and 1121 varieties remained unchanged at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,300-INR 8,400 per 100 kg, respectively, Devendra Vora, a wholesale trader, said.
The price of sona masoori rice, a premium non-basmati variety, was steady at INR 5,200-INR 5,300 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, said Ravi Shankar, a local trader. Despite slight damage to paddy crop in the kharif season, Shankar expects rice prices to remain steady for the next month due to ample carryover stocks and low demand for the grain.
Prices of WHEAT in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were unchanged at INR 2,750 per 100 kg due to a lack of fresh cues, local trader Guarav Kochar said. Prices were also stable in Vashi, Maharashtra, at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, Vora said.
However, wheat prices in Kota, Rajasthan, slipped by INR 50 to INR 2,400-2,450 per 100 kg due to poor demand and high arrivals, local trader Aniket Mehta said. Arrivals in Kota rose by 2,000 bags to 8,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), he said.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore were steady at INR 1,730 per 100 kg, Gaurav Kochar, a local trader, said. Maize prices, already at lower levels, are likely to remain largely unchanged amid comfortable supplies and weak demand, traders said. End
